FAFSA Opens October 1, 2016
The FAFSA will open on October 1, 2016. There are changes to the process this year and we would like to support our CUSD families with this process. Colleges and Universities across the country are “expecting” ALL seniors to complete the FAFSA this year – regardless of household income or asset status. This year you will use (PPY) Prior-Prior-Year data – which is essentially your 2015 tax information. You will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) within three weeks of completing your FAFSA. This report will be a summary of your aid eligibility. Please be sure to review this information to ensure that everything is correct.
The first step to completing the process is to create your FSA ID. Your FSA ID is essentially your legal binding electronic signature. You will need an FSA ID to sign the FAFSA. Seniors must know their Social Security number in order to create their ID.
Students applying to our in-state institutions should have their FAFSA completed by the end of first semester, with the exception of those seeking financial aid from NAU. NAU’s priority deadline is November 15, 2016. Students are encouraged to check with all institutions to which they are applying to find out about priority deadlines.
To provide our families with additional support Chandler Unified School District is hosting a Financial Aid Night for seniors and their parents on October 26, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the Chandler Center for the Arts. In addition all CUSD High Schools will be hosting workshops where seniors/parents can attend and complete their FAFSA on site with the help of financial aid professionals:
ACP-Erie : Nov. 1 from 4 to 7 pm
Chandler HS: Nov. 2 from 4 to 7 pm
Perry HS: Nov. 9 from 5 to 8 pm
Hamilton HS: Nov. 16 from 5 to 8 pm
Basha HS: Nov. 17 from 5 to 8 pm
All sessions are available to all CUSD families. You do not need to attend the session at ACP-Erie if that does not work with your schedule. The Financial Aid Night and workshop are not mandatory but are available to provide support and assistance.
