For the 'Best Professional Dressed Female event, Devin Ramos scored the title! For the 'Interviewing Challenge,' Aubri Everett and Max Hodge placed 1st and 4th respectively. Team efforts won this next event. For the Communication Challenge, the following students took first place: Salina Brown, Maggie Moon, Nicole Fayden, Kailey Lynde, Amanda Peterson, Zach Sessums, Marcie Hendricks, Michael Lomacz, Carlos Caraveo, Marissa Pretzer, Colleen Quinn and Devin Ramos. Congratulations to the Basha FFA Chapter for their winnings at the 83rd National FFA Convention! In the meats evaluation category, a team consisting of Max Hodge, Kellan Fisher, Cody Lane, and Brooke Lloyd all brandished a silver placement award. In the Nursery/ Landscape category also being honored as a team, with a silver placement is Sarah Serva, Dylan Lane, Jose Alatrista, and Courtney Kennedy.

Ten students represented CUSD in the FCCLA State Competition. In the FCCLA spotlight is: Gold Medal winners, Jourdan Roth and Micayla Winkler. Amanda Beinlich walked away with the silver medal while Josie Jackson, Karlee Statt, Mallory Peterson, Jessica Lister, Chantel Johnson, Taylor Phipps and Danielle Trevino swept up the bronze!! CUSD had 4 students that achieved the highest program assessment scores statewide. Out of 45 school districts, Basha and Perry took home the gold in 3 program areas. Theresa Chaves (PHS) and Jourdan Roth (BHS) tied with 3 other schools for the highest score in Early Childhood Education. Kiersten Kelly (BHS) received one of three of the highest scores in Education Professions. Perry High's Troy Tompkins shares his highest score with 2 other schools in Entertainment Marketing.

Si Se Puede Recognized seven teachers from CUSD. One of the seven was our own Melanie Alexander. Melanie was recognized for her unconditional dedication to improving her program to ensure successful outcomes for her students, as was evident when her students scored the best in the state's assessment tests. Among her many accomplishments, Melanie is a state FCCLA board member, a curriculum writer, and an adjunct professor for Rio Salado CC. Melanie is always energetic.

ASU Polytech Campus School of Engineering hosted a Sumo Robot Tournament. For the solo tournament, out of 5 high schools involved, Basha made it to the final 4 robots out of an initial count of 22. In a 'Battle Royale' round, Basha won with 8 robots in the ring at the same time. Overall, future engineers, Josh Joy, Connor Tepe, Kevin Hammond, Lindsey Schepps and Katie Gehr placed 2nd out of 5 high schools!

Mary Mangan and Ginny Houghtling and Regina Wainwright worked uncountable hours to add a special component to our already popular Nursing program. The State Board of Nursing has approved a Nursing Assistant Program within Med Profession II whereby students can clock class/lab hours and actual clinical hours at a nursing facility. Completion of this class is noted by a 'pinning' ceremony and a certificate that denotes CNA status. Movin' on up the CTE Ladder of success!! Great accomplishment!

CHS student, Blake Garrett, is the designer of a flower pot that he created as a fund raising effort for FFA. CHS has partnered with Hummert Greenhouses to sell these pots nationwide on the Hummert website and in turn will be awarded with a portion of the profits. At a recent convention, the CHS Agriscience students handed out over 3000 pots in a successful marketing effort! Great job, Blake!

The Chandler High FCCLA members raised an impressive $1127 for UNICEF. This is the 5th year that this club has raised over $1000 to help children around the world with immunizations and healthy food. This team also was able to donate 20 turkeys to the Chandler Care Center for distribution to Chandler community families. What a great cause. We look forward to year 6!!

Those who moved on in various areas of Public Relations, Hospitality and Tourism, 30-page paper submission, and Sports and Entertainment qualified for International DECA Competition to be held in Orlando, FLA in April. Stephanie Yoon created her outfit using window screens, electrical wire, copper tubing and light bulbs. Her creation was modeled by Allie Meyer. Chloe Nguyen chose to use garbage bags, newspaper and assorted gift ribbon and was proudly modeled by Violeta Sanchez. Great representation, Hamilton.

Cassandra Burnell, HHS senior and Graphic Design III student delivered 2 entries. Her first entry, 'Avatar,' a digital illustration in the poster category, was selected as best of category and was given the gold award and a trophy. Her second entry, entitled 'Friend' received the bronze. Courtney DuBois, 10th grade entered a bound publication titled, 'Camping Adventure.' Courtney was also voted best of category and given the gold and a trophy. Janik Festerling, a junior exchange student entered a 'coffee' package and walked away with a silver award. Kah-Leong Low, HHS junior, entered a marketing project which included a printed book and a packaged interactive CD that included an eBook and a web page winning her the bronze.

Heather Berlin recently received honorable accolades for her commitment and generosity towards a cause that is dear to her heart. Under the direction of Heather, Perry's DECA team participated in a 'Puma Prowl' raising approximately $5500 for the Arizona Cancer Center, whose dedication to the prevention and cure of cancer in the Southwest is well received. Thank you, Heather and your DECA team for its efforts to cure a disease that has touched many of us.
